Bush declared a state of emergency this morning.

For a look on the containment status and other information regarding each fire, check out calfire. Many of fires don’t seem to be well contained yet, namely the witch fire and rice fire citing zero percent contained and the harris fire at 5 percent. According to the latest post on the SOSD blog, it seems the fire swept through Rancho Santa Fe yesterday. According to the fire map I posted in the last post, the burnt areas seem to be expanding.

UCSD is also closed again today and I got an email from work telling me the office will be closed, too. It seems only the UCSD Medical Center will be opened.

Sign On San Diego moved its blog to blogspot. Now it’s finally readable. The SOSD site was completely bogged down earlier. It seems the witch fire has burned down 145,000 acres and as of 7:45 pm, is zero percent contained. Further, looks like the evacuation area is expanding rapidly.

The blog is here.

On another note, this was taken from Adrianne’s AIM info:

2-1-1 is seeking volunteers to help in the next 72 hours to take calls and/or fill other roles at 2-1-1 should that be needed. Shifts are about four hours and training is available. If interested, email Meg Storer at mstorer@211sandiego.org with your name, phone number where you can be reached, your email address, and the dates/times that work best with your schedule. A 2-1-1 person will contact you directly once you send that information.

I’ve sent an email to them to volunteer, but I’m sure they’re bogged down, too. Also, I’m not sure what a bunch of untrained people could do to help out at this point anyway.

This is a fire map.

Around yesterday or so, there was a fire in Malibu that spread down towards San Diego causing evacuations in Escondido, Poway, Rancho Bernardo, Rancho Santa Fe, basically everything “east of the 5, north of the 56″. The fires have been pretty reminiscent of first year (2003) so far. Everything smells like smoke and the sky is slightly orange. Yesterday, the fires were, according to the acting mayor of Malibu, zero percent contained. This morning, as of 6:15 am according to Sheriff Kolender, “things are getting worse, not better”.

Anyway, stay safe if you’re in the area.

This blog seems to be keeping pretty good track.

So I was going through some old stuff and I found a DVD in bad condition. I didn’t know what was on it since it was just labeled “Frank’s Stuff”.

This is how I cleaned it:

Metacafe link hereIt worked beautifully.

Turned out to be a bunch of my old stuff. Made my day.

There are five people living with me at the moment and we have a Netgear router that only has 4 ports (and wireless of course). I wanted to set up my D-Link router as a hub so that we could stay on the same network. This is how I did it. (It should work with most routers)

My hardware:

  • D-Link-524
  • Netgear WGR614
  • (Shitty) AT&T DSL

Steps to do it:

  1. Configure one router normally, setting wireless or whatnot to whatever you’d like. (This was the Netgear router)
  2. Turn on the second router and plug in a computer (in a LAN port) so that you can log in.
  3. Configure whatever wireless settings you’d like on the second router (or turn it off if you’d like).
  4. Disable DHCP on the second router so that the first router handles assigning IP addresses.
  5. Connect the first router (from a LAN port) to the second router (to a LAN port - if you connect to the WAN port, it won’t work).

That should be it.

So I just started my first full time job as the 5th employee (or possibly 4th, I’m not exactly sure) at a startup called Photometria located in La Jolla. My first project when I got there yesterday was to set up my desk. Following that, I set up 3 more similar desks and then went ahead to start setting up some computers. Keep in mind now, my job title is “Web programmer”…I’ve been “day laborer” up until now…

Anyway, so far it’s been pretty cool.  I think the job fits me (I say this despite the fact that I haven’t written a single line of code).  I get home everyday pretty tired, but I guess that comes with the territory. Can’t think of anything else interesting to write right now, kind of drained. I’ll stop here.

I just added a couple new albums.

Enjoy.

I’m back in the states but I don’t really feel like typing too much right now.

An interesting stumble for the night.

She is insane.

New pictures of London and Paris are added to the sidebar. They link to public facebook albums.

More pictures coming soon…
